Synopsis

59º North’s first Ski & Sail trip! Most of the 59º North staff are very into skiing, and so are many of our return crew members. So combining the two seems like an absolute no-brainer.

The Lyngen Alps in the Norwegian Arctic offer some of the best skiing in the world. It is quite remote and is only accessible from the sea — meaning that you will most likely have the whole mountain to yourself! We’ll find docks or anchorages around the Alps, and go ashore where the snow begins and the water ends. August knows this area very well, and has led many Ski & Sail expeditions in the area. The peaks are between 800 and 1500 meters, and will be scaled on foot from the shore. 

The trip will start and end in the beautiful city of Tromsø. You will need to bring you own skiing gear.

Expected Weather Pattern

We could possibly see some strong winds in the north, but we will mostly be in well-protected, inshore waters. We could see freezing temperatures and snow. But as we say, there is no bad weather, only bad clothing! No need for shorts and sandals on this one.

Tentative Itinerary

• Mar 29: Join ISBJØRN in Tromsø, Norway at 13:00. Dinner with the group ashore or onboard.

• Mar 30: All-day safety briefing & boat orientation.

• Mar 31: Departure! (Weather dependent)

• Apr 5: Disembark ISBJØRN in Tromsø, Norway by 12:00 Noon

Travel Logistics

• Fly into Oslo Airport (OSL) and connect to a flight to Tromsø (TOS) in the north.

• Fly out of Tromsø (TOS), and connect in Oslo (OSL) for an international flight.

How to Join

To register, complete the Offshore Passage Registration by clicking the 'Sign Up' button above, or at the bottom of the page. You'll be asked to complete the form - make sure you hit submit. Indicate '2024: Lyngen Ski & Sail' as your preferred passage. 

Once we receive your registration, you'll be sent an invoice for 50% of the balance, due immediately. The final 50% of the balance will be due 60 days prior to the passage date. Terms and conditions are in the registration form, and you'll be asked to agree to them before submitting your deposit. Please read them carefully.
